Our
Purpose
The
Maxwell Park Neighborhood Council (certified on June
3rd, 1998) is one of Oakland’s Neighborhood
Crime Prevention Councils. Its membership - the residents
and businesses of Police
Beat 28X - works cooperatively with the Oakland
Police Department and City Agencies and Officials
to create a safe and beautiful environment supported
by an informed and engaged community.
Our
Objectives
- The
Council addresses neighborhood concerns and issues
via:
- Monthly
meetings with the community, Oakland Police Department,
our City Council Members and representatives and guest
speakers
- Networking
for problem solving, especially utilizing our Neighborhood
Action Teams
- The
resources of the neighborhood
email group
- Our
access to City resources helps us to improve the quality
of life in Maxwell Park

How
to Get Involved
- Come
to our meetings
and bring a neighbor!
- Access
the Maxwell Park Neighborhood Council website: maxwellparknc.com
- Share
resources and information - join the neighborhood
e-mail group
- For
more information, contact Krista Gulbransen, or call 436-7177.
Activities
- As
our neighborhood has evolved, so have the projects
that we take on. An Earth Day project that started
in April 2003 to clean up Redding Street between High
and Birdsall has evolved into an Adopt A Highway and
an Adopt A Spot project, with beautiful landscaping
projects. This now falls under the Beautification
and Blight NAT.
- A
desire to be more proactive in the community led to
the development of Neighborhood
Walks, with numbers ranging from 3 to 60. Dogs
and Strollers are welcome.
- And
then, out of a brainstorming session at the August
2004 meeting, Neighborhood
Action Teams were created to specifically address
those issues felt to be the most important. Regular
NAT updates will also be published in the MacArthur
Metro. Click on history
to read more about NAT creation.
- MaxPark
Families is the kids’ and parents’
group for Maxwell Park and nearby neighborhoods. Together,
we share resources, exchange ideas and build resources
to create good neighborhoods for all families. To
join contact Ashley Thomsak.
