Emergency Sub-Sectors
by Naomi Weinstein, MPERT lead
MPERT originally divided Maxwell Park into 10 sectors of 200 homes each. Now we are further dividing the sectors into sub-sectors of a few blocks each (about 80 homes) to facilitate in-person connections, which will be critical during a major emergency.
Sectors A and I are already subdivided into: AA, AB, AC and IA, IB, IC. Many of these sub-sectors have already started a sub-sector emergency contact list and an incident command center (ICC is a local gathering spot, often supplied with some community emergency supplies.) See the updated MPERT Sector map.
Member Spotlight: Shannon in Sector AC
What emergency preparedness steps are you doing for yourself, and your sub-sector AC?
Shannon: We are meeting quarterly with about 6-12 neighbors (from an email list of about 50 people.) Last time we talked about evacuation routes. Next time we will talk about emergency supplies that we have, and what we still need, for both our personal emergency kits, and for setting up a new ICC with community supplies.
What do you need help with?
Shannon: We need a suggested list of ICC supplies, and some initial supplies when they become available through donations. We would also like to connect with more Sector AC neighbors, and to sign up for this newsletter.
MPERT encourages members in all sectors to connect with your immediate neighbors, to start a sub-sector emergency contact list, and to familiarize yourself with the nearest ICC. To start a sub-sector emergency contact list, knock on doors and/or email an existing contact list you may already have (National Night Out, Neighborhood Watch, or any other group). Ask if it’s OK to include them on your MPERT sub-sector emergency contact list, and mention the list will only be shared with people already on that list and possibly first responders. Please let us know who is organizing your sub-sector emergency contact list, and who might want to establish a new ICC.
If you would like to connect with Shannon in sub-sector AC, or any other sub-sector, please email MPERT.info@gmail.com.
