$100M investment in E. Oakland
Submitted by Donald Dalke, MPNC board member
Deep East Oakland, from Seminary to the San Leandro border and MacArthur Freeway to the Bay has for many decades struggled. The area has experienced a lack of resources and services, small businesses, and parks; segregated housing; the crack cocaine epidemic; homelessness; and failed efforts at economic revitalization. This has a devastating effect on the area's residents and especially on young people. Now through partnerships with Blue Meridian Partners and others, $100 million has been pledged to create jobs, build affordable housing, improve health and education, and revitalize commercial corridors through the collective effort Rise East. Improvements in the lives and community in East Oakland will surely have benefits for all of Oakland, especially related to public safety and overall economic health. Find out more at riseeast.org.
